A cold January morning - the chances of atmospheric pictures at sunrise are good, so off to the Saarschleife and the Wortsegel near Tholey.

The Saar Loop near Orscholz

The Saarschleife - no other landmark is more representative of the Saarland. It is now more than well-known beyond the borders of the small Saarland. The "Cloef" vantage point offers a dreamlike view.

Directly above the "Cloef" lookout point, the Saarschleife treetop path was opened in 2016. The wooden path climbs slowly from the Cloef atrium over a length of 1250 metres through the trees to the 42 m high observation tower. Here you can enjoy an even more spectacular view of the Saarschleife and the surrounding landscapes, for example the Hunsrück.

The word sail near Tholey

The sculpture "Wortsegel" stands on a hill northwest of Sotzweiler, a municipality of Tholey. It was designed by the sculptor Heinrich Popp and is a monument to poetry. The word sail, with a height of 13 metres, was erected in 2005 after several years of planning and execution work and has a total mass of 30 tonnes.

Below are some more pictures taken on my tour that same morning.
