    After a few sunny and relaxing days in France on the Mediterranean, we continued our journey south to Barcelona today. We cancelled the originally planned visit to the Dali Museum in Figueres and spontaneously decided to visit the city of Girona instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Parking with the camper in Girona<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

    Less than five kilometres from the motorway, there is a parking space for campers in the middle of the city (Parking Vayreda Autocaravanas). The site is located on the parking deck of an underground car park. The car park is not cheap at \u20ac18 (December 2022) for 24 hours, but it is guarded by cameras and is less than a 10-minute walk into the old town. There is a small park nearby - perfect if you are travelling with dogs. Alternatively, there is also a car park outside the city on Carrer de Roberto Bola\u00f1o \u00c1valos. This is in a nicer location and offers walks to the Riu Ter, although it is a 35-minute walk to the city centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Girona the city of four rivers<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

    Girona is also known as the city of four rivers. Of these rivers, the Riu Onyar meanders most impressively through the city. Several small pedestrian bridges cross the river. From here you have a beautiful view of the colourful houses that have been built right up to the river. A beautiful silhouette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    We started our tour of the city in the late afternoon. Via a few side streets, we reached the most famous bridge \"Pont de les Peixateries Velles\" over the river Onyar. The bridge is reminiscent of the design of the Eiffel Tower and was actually built by Eiffel and opened in 1877.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    And we were already in the old town centre. The small alleyways and streets are lined with one small shop after another. Whether for eating or shopping - there is something for everyone here. For a small snack, we recommend the empanadas at \"Volver\" in Carrer de la Cort Reial. Very tasty at a reasonable price.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Girona's sights - a small selection<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

    The city wall<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

    With a length of just over one kilometre, the city wall is best explored on a short walk. From the towers, you have an excellent view over Girona for a good kilometre. You start at the northern section behind the cathedral and climb up the steps to the Jardins dels Alemanys. The first tower can be visited via a few more steps and you have a beautiful view of the city wall. If you continue along the city wall, you will reach Placa de Catalunya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Casa Rigau<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

    A walk along the city wall gives you a good view of Casa Rigau. The building was designed by Joan Roca i Pinet. It is a mixture of Art Nouveau with its curved lines and floral sgraffito motifs and Art Nouveau architecture. The house is part of the cultural heritage of Catalonia<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Banys \u00c0rabs<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

    The history of the Arab baths in Girona dates back to 1194, and with an entrance fee of just three euros, it's well worth a quick visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The cathedral of Girona<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

    It is the absolutely dominant building in the city of Girona, regardless of which way you look at it. At 23 metres wide, the nave is the largest Gothic nave in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
