1. And off we go - Through Europe with the camper van
  2. Hiking along the Canal du Midi
  3. Our ball junkie and the consequences

Mishaps can happen on a long journey. We had long wanted to return to Andalusia Unfortunately, our little ball junkie girl got in the way. Without fear or reproach, or you could say without sense or reason, our little Youma chases after balls. Whether on land, on water or in the air, it doesn't matter, she throws herself headfirst into it. We knew something would happen at some point, but we were expecting a chipped tooth and had already given up on asphalt. But no, Madame rammed a large spike into her eye on the forest floor. Of course, we were far away from everything, in the middle of the mountains. So that evening we called the nearest vet who referred us to a specialist.

The culprit
At the AniCura veterinary clinic
The little one needs to be comforted

And so the next morning we drove two hours to the sea to Javea (Xàbia) to Minina&Kanina. The doctor was a blessing for us and our dog. Rarely have we experienced such kind treatment of people and animals. After the examination, it was clear that she needed an operation. The doctor recommended the Animal clinic AniCura in Valenciawhere we had been a few days earlier. She phoned Ángel, who was to operate on her, sent him photos and announced our arrival. And we were already on the two-hour journey to the clinic - back to Valencia.

The operation - everything will be fine!

Once there, the Investigation and she was operated on the same evening. We were only able to pick her up the next day. Of course it was a horror for us to have to leave her alone, but in this case it made sense. At the operation, they also gave her a small Tumour which they removed at the same time, otherwise the operation went well. We had to stay in the neighbourhood until the next check-up in a week's time. So, of necessity, we first stayed at a campsite for two days so that the little one could recover a little. Then we went to the mountains so that at least the men could get their energy out. Unfortunately, for Youma it meant a three-week break, no hiking, no beach, no swimming. Not that she isn't fit again, but because she has to wear a brace, she is very limited in her senses and mobility. Especially as the heat builds up in these trunks and it becomes uncomfortable for her in the sun in the long term. And of course the eye needs time to heal. So it's women at home looking after their aches and pains, or eyes dripping and dripping and dripping, and men on tour.

Follow-up check

The Control after one week brought good results. The tumour was benign and the eye was healing according to plan. We were given the go-ahead to continue travelling. After two weeks, the eye has to be checked again and the stitches removed. Ángel offered us the option of contacting him at any time via WhatsApp if there was anything wrong and he would organise a specialist for us wherever we were, inform him by phone, send him the documents and register us.

Thanks to AniCura

At this point, we must Anicura Veterinary Clinic and especially Ángel, who operated on our Youma, in the highest terms and thank you. It's amazing what commitment they showed, how conscientious, helpful, warm and friendly they were and are. Even though 1300 euros of course tore a hole in the travel budget, we think it was still very reasonable for an operation, all medication, two extensive eye examinations, an overnight stay with full board and the biopsy of the tumour. We can only take our hats off to this and wish there were more vets and veterinary clinics like this in Germany. Thank you very much Minina&Kanina and AniCura!

Now we hope that at the last check-up in a fortnight everything will be healed, Youma can swim and go to the beach again, and we can all roam Spain together as a pack again. We will report back!
